Huawei Confirms It Is Working On A 6.1-Inch Galaxy Note Competitor

In some not-so-surprising news, Huawei has finally come out and confirmed it is indeed working on a Samsung Galaxy Note II competitor. While speaking on the Chinese social networking page Weibo (China’s equivalent to Twitter), Huawei Senior VP Yu Chengdong  took some time to tout up his company’s next beast of a smartphone. The device (which is speculated to be the Ascend Mate) will have a 6.1-inch full HD 1080p display and feature an in-house 1.8GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM– all the while having a “cooler” design than the current Galaxy Note II.
Unfortunately, the Huawei executive decided to leave the Android world collectively guessing and speculating what else could be found in the unique device, but at least we won’t have to wait long. The device is expected to be formally revealed at CES 2013 in January— which is only a month away.
Try to contain your excitement in the meantime folks.

New Huawei MediaPad 10 Link surfaces on certification sites

China’s Huawei appears to have some new versions of their MediaPad 10 FHD 10-inch tablet set to be released in the near future. According to NotebookItalia, at least three different model numbers have surfaced at the WiFi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG sites. The models – S10-201W, S10-201U and S10-202U – have all received WiFi certification. Details are still sketchy, but it appears the 201U and 202U versions probably contain antennas for 3G and 3G/4G connectivity.
Dubbed the MediaPad 10 Link, the devices do appear to possess the MediaPad 10 FHD’s 10.1-inch IPS LCD HD display. NotebookItalia compared images of the new device with the MediaPad 10 FHD and noted some very minor variations in the cases. The question remains as to whether the new devices are low-cost alternatives Huawei is trying to bring to market or the next evolution of the MediaPad 10 FHD. Perhaps we will find out during CES 2013.

Huawei Ascend D Quad XL headed to WIND Mobile

A leaked promotional poster from WIND has revealed that the carrier is gearing up to release Huawei’s impressive Ascend D Quad XL smartphone. The Canadian carrier has already rolled out the LG Optimus 4X and Samsung Galaxy Note II, so another quad-core device is simply icing on the figurative cake.
There’s no official information regarding when the device will actually see a launch or how much it will cost when it arrives, but considering the handset has launched elsewhere for around $500, we’d expect more of the same. As a refresher, the Ascend D Quad XL sports a 4.5-inch 720 x 1280 panel, an in-house 1.4GHz quad-core SoC and an 8-megapixel rear shooter. There’s also a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front for video chat, as well as 8GB of on board storage and 1GB of RAM.
