Orgarhythm THD released for Tegra 3 powered devices

More gaming news today for owners of Android devices. Acquire Corporation recently released a new title, Orgarhythm THD for Tegra 3 powered devices. Orgarhythm is a game that combines strategic thinking necessary to figure out your way through the different challenges with some “sensing” brain activity. The latter occurs as users have to figure out a tapping rhythm to employ to defeat enemies. The game play itself sets up the player as the God of Light battling the God of Darkness, with both sides deploying armies of elemental soldiers.
Acquire will let you download the game for free, but the number of levels available is rather limited. StagePacks are available that add more levels to the game, but each stage pack costs in excess of $8.50. Grabbing all three packs will set you back a good $25. If you are interested in trying out Orgarhythm THD, use one of the download links below.

Gree to close Openfeint with less than a month notice to developers

OpenFeint, a popular gaming network for Android and iOS devices, announced the service will be shutdown on December 14th. OpenFeint was purchased by Gree in 2011 and it was no secret the long term plan was to shutdown the service and move games to Gree’s own platform. However, indications up to this time were that the transition would not occur until later in 2013. With today’s news, developers have little time to roll out updates to customers.
The impact will vary by game for users. A title like GoNinja that is closely integrated with the OpenFeint network will likely not open at all once Gree turns off the servers and apps can no longer make network calls. According to the announcement page, it appears some functions and features, like Game Feed, will not be available to developers who may opt to migrate to the Gree platform. There are indications that user data will be lost during the migration.
Companies shutting down services, especially when they have a different platform they want partners to move to, goes with the technology landscape. Springing a surprise deadline on developers and users does not seem like a wise business decision. Combined with the step backwards with regard to some features, it is hard to imagine this move by Gree will engender trust in developers to give the new platform a try.

Ouya launch still on track, dumps Ice Cream Sandwich in favor of Jelly Bean

The developers of the Ouya, the kickstarter darling, say it is already upgrading the yet-to-be-released Android gaming console to Jelly Bean. They didn’t specify whether the update would be to 4.1 or the recently announced Android 4.2, but it’s good news either way. The progress report also stated they’ve been refining the hardware design and are now in the EVT (Engineering Verification Testing) phase. Once hardware testing is complete in the EVT phase, Ouya says it will be on track for a December launch of its SDK (Software Developer Kit).
Ouya’s hardware progress report said the device won’t have the familiar menu, back and volume buttons seen on most Android devices. The Ouya will instead have a single button that will pause and bring up the Ouya menu. This button may be similar to the Xbox 360 guide button gamers are familiar with. The controller is described as a “standard gamepad” and will include a touchpad capable of only single-touch input.  Since the Ouya will come with a Tegra 3 CPU, they suggested eager developers test their games on Android tablets with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. “That’ll give you an accurate representation as to how your game will perform on an OUYA.” It sounds like my Nexus 7 will be my personal mini-Ouya until the March 2013 launch.

WikiPad faces delay as team tries to refine the experience

Originally set to make its debut this morning, the WikiPad gaming tablet has officially been put on hiatus in order to ensure the “first product is the best tablet and entertainment experience at launch.” The tablet, originally available for pre-order since September, is a 10-inch tablet running Android that intends to change the scope of mobile gaming.
The company has said that customers who pre-ordered the device up until today, October 21st, will receive “refined and upgraded bundles” when the device is eventually released. The delay is attributed to the company choosing to take advantage of a “last minute opportunity”which will allow them to “perfect the WikiPad bundle.” Of course there’s no word on when the device will hit stores, so stay tuned for the latest updates. Moreover, you can read the official statement after the break.

EA Need for Speed Most Wanted now available in Google Play Store

Earlier this month we reported on EA’s teaser video for the latest installment in their Need for Speed franchise – Need for Speed Most Wanted. Today, the game was released and is available in the Google Play Store for $6.99. The game enables you to drive over 35 different cars using either touch or tilt controls. By logging in to the Origin service, players can check out who is most wanted either across different platforms or just among your friends, then challenge them to a street-racing showdown. Adding to the pressure of the competition is a police force trying to put an end to your fun and games.

Shoot The Zombirds gets a Halloween Update

Infinite Dreams recently released a Halloween-esque update to their app, Shoot the Zombirds. It’s an addictive little game that feels a bit like the NES classic, Duck Hunt. You play a crossbow-wielding hero, defending Pumpkids from swarms of undead birds. It’s simple, but it’s extremely polished and plays well.
The newest Halloween based update brings three new spooky characters, two new Halloween backgrounds, and a Halloween-themed game icon. If you’re in a creepy holiday mood and need a new time waster while waiting for the bus, it’s hard to go wrong with this (free) app.

PowerA Moga Controller hands on review: console-like gaming on the go

I think we are at the beginning of a boom for smartphone/tablet controllers. With the console showing signs of decline, all eyes are on on the mobile community. There are two elements that need to be met in order for mobile to take over. First, you need quality games, and second, you need good controls. Each and everyday we are getting closer and closer to console-like games, but what about the controls? We already have a number of controllers available, and nothing has excited me too much until now. The problem with controllers is that there’s no place to put your phone. If you try to put it on a table, it’s awkward, and it just doesn’t work. The PowerA MOGA Bluetooth controller takes care of this problem and gives you a complete portable mini-gaming system for $49.99 (available October 21). Does it live up to the hype and is it worth your hard earned dollars?

EA teases new Need for Speed: Most Wanted game with new video

Need for Speed, quite possibly the most popular game in its genre is making its way yet again to the Android platform in the form of Most Wanted. If you’re not familiar with this franchise,Need for Speed offers realistic dynamic physics-based collisions, cop takedowns, and realistic visual damage. Need for Speed: Most Wanted will also feature plenty of real world cars to drive, but let’s face it, we all know we end up crashing these cars just for fun either way.
This franchise has always been one of my favorites ever since I was young, so I’ll definitely give this a shot on my Android device. Electronic Arts has released a short teaser video of the game in action that you can check out after the break!

Day 4 of Google’s 25-cent app deals is now live

There’s just two days left for Google’s 25-cent app sale that’s going on in the Google Play Store. As you know, the sale started this past Wednesday to celebrate the milestone of 25 billion downloads. Hit the break for today’s action.
Also to note is that SwiftKey 3 Keyboard is on sale as well. It’s not at 25-cents, but at 99-cents, it’s still a great buy for easily the best replacement keyboard on Android.
If you missed out on yesterday’s sales, you can still grab those deals as they are still live. Hurry, because they probably won’t last long.
