Sprint to offer buy-one-get-one free deal on three Samsung Galaxy devices this holiday season

‘Tis the season for sweet deals on new devices. In the past, T-Mobile’s been known to run a few buy-one-get-one deals. Well Sprint is getting in on that action this season with their holiday BOGO deal. This deal is good for the Samsung Galaxy Victory, S II, and S III. The deal will run from December 7th through 24th and will be available for new and upgrading customers. Anyone signing two years of their life away and jumping on this deal?

Samsung Galaxy S II 4G now available from Boost Mobile in Titanium for $369.99

Leaked earlier this month, the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G in Titanium is Boost Mobile’s newest prepaid handset. The device is essentially a re-purposed Galaxy S II, sporting the same specifications of Samsung’s 2011 flagship smartphone. The “4G” branding stems from the included WiiMax radios, which Boost Mobile is now borrowing from its parent network, Sprint.
The revamped Galaxy S II is available today from Boost Mobile for $369.99 off contract which, in all fairness, seems a bit outrageous for what you’re getting. If you don’t have your heart set on Boost, there are plenty of other options at more appealing price points. In fact, you could purchase the Nexus 4 off-contract and take it to T-Mobile for as low as $30 per month, so long as you can wait three weeks for Google to restock the pure Android smartphone.

Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S II leaked

The first leak of an Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean build for Samsung Galaxy S II devices has surfaced. Labeled as build I9300XLSJ, the firmware update was originally posted by XDA Developers forum member izap. The update includes all of the normal enhancements one would expect from a Jelly Bean update like performance improvements courtesy Project Butter, new home screen modes, a new notification bar, and Google Now. Because the file is coming from Samsung, it also includes some of their specific enhancements like the TouchWiz Nature UX interface, access to the Samsung Cloud services, and a couple widgets originally developed for the Samsung Galaxy S III.
The leaked build is prerelease code intended for testing purposes, so it is not supported by KIES and you should probably expect some minor bugs to exist. If you are really anxious to get your hands on Jelly Bean for your Galaxy S II and are willing to live with the possible consequences of flashing your device, follow the source link to download the build and find the directions to get things installed. Otherwise, hang in there and be patient as this seems to be a good indication an official release is on its way to Galaxy S II owners in the near future.

Virgin Mobile to offer Samsung Galaxy S II for $369.99 starting November 15th

Virgin Mobile is poised to start offering the Samsung Galaxy S II this coming week. According to sources, Virgin will make the device available for $369.99 starting on Thursday, November 15th. The device will be available in titanium and white. Users can then opt for a $35 per month plan. Although the Galaxy S II is now a generation old, the device remains popular. As we saw last week, even Sprint is working on a refreshed version to make available. The Galaxy S II still a solid smartphone device and could be a good option for some users looking to upgrade even older devices.

New vulnerability found in Samsung devices, TouchWiz to blame

Today a rather catastrophic exploit was found in Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. The new hack allows websites to run a USSD code commanding the device to wipe itself back to factory state, and possibly even damage the SIM card. This means that just by simply visiting a infected website could remove all your pictures, contacts, apps and most importantly: your high score on Temple Run.
Luckily this piece of malicious code will only interface with the TouchWiz interface, so if you’re running CyanogenMod or any other custom ROMs, you’re most likely safe. The current list of affected device include the aforementioned Galaxy S III, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace and Galaxy S Advance.
